Saturday Wrap

Wild day.  Iowa is no longer unbeaten.  That’s the biggest story of the day.  I covered it earlier.  Ohio State beat Penn State and now controls the Big Ten race.  The Buckeyes host Iowa next week.  The winner gets the title.

Clemson had a wild win over FSU tonight.  CJ Spiller ran for 165 yards and caught a 58-yard TD pass as the Tigers won 40-24.  The win was all the more impressive because of 2 missed FGs and 2 missed extra points by Clemson.  Analyst Todd Blackledge asked about Spiller getting some Heisman talk.  I think that could very well happen.

Navy beat Notre Dame 23-21.  That’s now 2 of 3 for the Midshipmen.  Domer WR Golden Tate did everything humanly possible to win the game.  Charlie Weis is no longer on the hot seat.  He very well is on the outside looking in at this point.

Nebraska upset Oklahoma.  This year has pretty much been a disaster for the Sooners.  Final was 10-3.  Great job by the Nebraska D.

Alabama came from behind to beat LSU.  That puts the Tide in the SEC title game.  They need to keep winning to have a shot at the National Title.  WR Julio Jones made a huge play in the game to put the Tide out in front.

Oregon lost to Stanford, 51-42.  The Ducks were down big early on.  They fought back, but couldn’t get the lead.  So much for the questions about whether they should be ranked ahead of Boise State.  Notice how so many of the tough questions work themselves out on the field?

Cincy beat UConn in a shootout.  I was shocked to see that game go 47-45.  Normally that’s a month for the Huskies.  The Bearcats are just finding a different way to win each week.

Texas beat UCF earlier in the day.  Good win, but nothing significant about the game.

Ga Tech beat Wake Forest 30-27 in OT.  The Yellowjackets stay in front in the Coastal Division race.  Wake has had some tough losses this year.

Houston was really pushed by Tulsa tonight, but the Cougars came up big when they needed to and won 46-45.

Oregon State upset Cal.  The highlight of the game was a play where Jahvid Best took a nasty spill in the end zone and had to be carted off.  He suffered a concussion.  It looked really bad for a minute.
