Week 9 in the Books

I watched the USC / Oregon game.  I cannot believe the Ducks almost put up 50 points on the Trojans.  That is really shocking stuff.  I seriously underestimated Oregon.  They lost to Boise in the opener, but this team is playing some of the best football in the country right now.

And what is up with USC?  Their defense has been great for years.  The last 3 weeks they’ve been torched for lots of yards and points.  I always wondered if losing good players would catch up to them.  Sure looks like that has happened on defense.

I was shocked to see Iowa comeback to beat Indiana.  The Hawkeyes were down 21-7 and came back to win 42-24.  Crazy, crazy game.   Indiana had the ball inside the 10-yard line with the 21-7 lead.  Iowa pulled off a miracle by picking off a deflected pass and running it back 90+ yards for a TD.  The score at the end of the 3rd Qtr was 24-14.  Indiana was still in control.

And then Iowa went all Iowa and took over.  These guys are unreal.  Kirk Ferentz has got to be doing some voodoo or something like that.  Indiana forgot how to cover and the Hawkeyes turned into the ’85 Bears on defense.  Things got ugly in a hurry.

Iowa is not that good.  They aren’t.  But they keep winning.  And that is the key in college football.  I just have to think that the late game heroics will come back to haunt them at some point.  You can’t count on coming from behind each week…unless your coach is in league with Lucifer!!!  Joking, of course.  Kirk Ferentz is a terrific coach and the Hawkeyes are easily the most resilient team around.  They find a new way to win every week.

Quick Stuff…

* Florida State isn’t good right now, but they are still finding a way to win.

* Texas blew the doors off Oklahoma State.  Disappointing game.

* Duke is 5-3 (3-1 in the ACC).  Temple is 6-2.  This is one weird football season.

* I really hoped Georgia would play UF tough today.  Didn’t happen.  The Dawgs miss Stafford and Moreno.

* Wake couldn’t put Miami away and the Canes came back to win late.  Really tough loss for the Deacons & an equally big win for Miami.

* Auburn took it to Ole Miss.  The Rebels have been a huge disappointment.  They are the opposite of Iowa in a lot of ways.

* Houston QB Case Keenum threw for 559 and 5 TDs in a win over Southern Miss.  Keenum is a real fun player to watch.

* Michigan lost 38-13 to Illinois.  The Wolverines are really struggling right now.
